Anxiety Remedies

Nov 23, 2024

Anxiety used to be an old friend of mine.

I became intimate and familiar with the ways it moved through my body, my mind and relationships. My dear friend Heidi and I have taught classes called "Befriending Anxiety" as a way of unpacking and understanding this very human experience of feeling like something is terribly wrong, even though, in reality, everything might be all right.

Last week, that old friend, who I haven't felt in years came around again. That feeling of agitation, restless sleep and general "everything is wrong" vibe. So fun.

So I do what I always do when I feel distressed. I go to the body and I go to my people for help. Who says we have to do this life alone? Reaching is one of the key developmental movement patterns that we all have engrained in our body. We have to know how to reach for others, for things and for what we want. We have to know how to reach in and reach out.
So here are the few things I did that sent Anxiety on it's way and cleared the path to a deeper understanding of what was really going on.

  1. Expressed myself. I spoke to two friends, one at 3am in the morning and had a good cry! This is where my time change comes in handy.

  2. Danced, danced and danced

  3. Made Shakshuka. The chopping and smells are very grounding. Cooking is my refuge.

  4. Did my resonant breathing practice.

  5. Gave things away to a much needed charity.

  6. Went somewhere new with my family.

Love and Lunacy,
Deborah
